OREANDA-NEWS. December 23, 2010. Crude oil production by Al Bou Kamal Petroleum Company (a joint venture) from the South Kishma oil field has amounted to 10,000 tons since the beginning of the field development, reported the press-centre of TATNEFT.

Based on drilling data and testing the wells drilled the specialists of TatNIPIneft R&D Institute, Tatar Geological Exploration Administration and TNG-Group with the active participation of the employees of the Syrian branch of Tatneft Exploration & Production Int'l AG (TEPI AG) and the Geological Survey Service of the Executive Office of TATNEFT have developed and successfully defended the "Report on feasibility and economic indicators of the first South Kishma Field discovery" in the General Petroleum Corporation of the Syrian Arab Republic. As of today, additional seismic studies have been carried out to clarify the field geology structure and the plans provide for drilling an exploratory well for the purpose of increasing the category of discovered crude oil reserves. Currently there are 2 wells in operation: South Kishma-101 and South Kishma-2.

Today the branch of Tatneft Exploration & Production Int'l AG in Syria conducts works under the second extension period of exploration (3rd phase) within Block No. 27. 2D and 3D seismic field operations, data processing and interpretation, drilling of two exploration wells are envisaged within its framework.

TATNEFT became the first Russian company to win an open international tender in 2003 and to sign a contract for exploration and production of crude oil and gas under the Production Sharing Agreement (PSA) in Syria.

Al Bou Kamal Petroleum Company is a joint venture between TATNEFT and the General Petroleum Corporation of Syria established on a parity basis in the Syrian Arab Republic. Recoverable reserves of the field are estimated in the amount of 4.9 million tons of crude oil.

The territory of Block No. 27 is located in the south-eastern part of Syria bordering with Iraq and consists of two areas (northern and southern parts) and covers an area of 1,900 sq.km.

A significant amount of 2 D and 3 D seismic works has been carried out and five exploration wells have been drilled since the start of operations in Block No. 27.
