Head of FAS Met Vice-President of International Bar Association
OREANDA-NEWS. November 30, 2010.The Head of FAS Russia Igor Artemyev, held a meeting with Michael Reynolds, Vice-President of the International Bar Association, reported the press-centre of FAS Russia.
Igor Artemyev discussed with Mr. Reynolds experience of joint investigations and market analysis carried out by competition authorities of the CIS member-states as part of the activities of the Headquarters for Joint Investigations of Antimonopoly Violations. Mr. Reynolds showed considerable interest towards high degree of cooperation between competition authorities in the CIS and suggested to organize a special session focused on such cooperation in course of antimonopoly conferences of the International Bar Association.
Igor Artemyev also told about FAS Russia’s interaction with “Promoting Competition” Non-Commercial Partnership, which comprises lawyers and economists specializing in antimonopoly law. Such cooperation enables open discussions of legislative initiatives of FAS Russia and specific features of the antimonopoly law and to correct the most controversial norms and standards.
The Head of FAS Russia informed Mr. Reynolds about the nature of engagement between the Interstate Council on Antimonopoly Policy of the CIS member-states (ICAP) and “Promoting Competition in the CIS” Non-Commercial Partnership, which is gradually becoming more and more active. Recent developments include signing the Cooperation Agreement between the two organizations on 25th November 2010, which determines the main formats and areas of cooperation between ICAP and the Partnership.
At the meeting considerable attention was paid to development of cooperation within the framework of BRIC. The International Bar Association already organized several sessions at their conferences, where the heads of competition authorities of BRIC countries addressed the global legal community on the most interesting aspects of development of the antimonopoly law.
The Parties agreed to continue intensive interaction between FAS Russia and the International Bar Association in view of new formats and possibilities.
