Unit of Kudankulam NPP in India Will Be Constructed in December
OREANDA-NEWS. November 29, 2010. The information was reported to Interfax by Head of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko. “All construction works at Kudankulam NPP first power unit in Tamil Nadu, Indian southern state, shall be finished by the middle of December,” he said.
According to Rosatom’s Head the NPP second power unit is also close to its commissioning. He did not specify the exact launch date of the two power units. “We have proceeded to the discussed serial work (of NPP construction), which will help to reduce terms and costs of power unit construction,” S. Kiriyenko stressed.
“The experience, accumulated by our companies during the work with Kudankulam first two power units, contributes to operative execution of succeeding stages. All works are being implemented in accordance with the set schedule,” Head of Rosatom noted.
Production localization will become another factor, facilitating power units’ construction. According to S. Kiriyenko, in the nearest future they will choose 3–4 Indian companies, on which sites there will be produced constituent parts and other equipment for future NPP power units, which are to be constructed in India on the basis of Russian projects within the framework of the existing roadmap of cooperation in the nuclear power field.
At present Atomstroyeksport CJSC is successfully holding the hydraulic testing of Kudankulam first power unit. This is a key operational arrangement of the NPP construction final stage.
