OREANDA-NEWS. November 25, 2010. Mr. Soltan Aliyev, SOCAR Vice-president on Ecology met with the Polish delegation led by Mr. Janusz Zaleski, Deputy Minister of Environment. According to Mr. Aliyev, carrying out ecological issues gained more importance in the country after the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev officially declared 2010 a “Year of Ecology”.

Implemented works and large-scale ecological programs, started 5 years ago, are directed towards the improvement of ecological condition of the country. He mentioned that these issues are carried out by SOCAR Ecological Projects Management Department, SOCAR Ecology Department, and EKOL Engineering Services, and currently, about 1000 personnel of the Company are engaged in these activities. Polish Deputy Minister of Environment Mr. Janusz Zaleski mentioned that they bear responsibility for environmental sphere before the EU.

The Deputy Ministry also informed about the applied technologies in this direction. Afterwards, there was held presentation of GreenEvo Project prepared by the Ministry. The Project Coordinator Ms. Agnieszka Kozіowska-Korbicz said that Poland is ready to share its experience by means of GreenEvo Project. The primary objective of the GreenEvo project is to support the international activity of companies - participants of the project.

The project helps to identify favourable directions of foreign expansion for technologies qualified for the project. At the end of the meeting, Mr. Aliyev presented “Azerbaijan’s oil” book, issued both in Azerbaijani and English, to Mr. Janusz Zaleski.
