OREANDA-NEWS. November 25, 2010. The Cherepovets Integrated Iron and Steel Plant (CherMK), which is part of the Severstal Russian Steel Division, announces that it will deliver GMW standard rolled metal products to General Motors (GM).

The initial trial batch of 200 tonnes of galvanised and cold-rolled mill products, of grades CR2, CR3 and CR4 (GMW2 standard), will be delivered to ZАО GM Uzbekistan. The consignment will be used for stamping test components, including the internal panels of doors, hoods and roofs. Following an approval procedure and necessary tests, new steel grades are expected to be used for the manufacture of a new MATIZ М 300 model.

CherMK’ management are currently considering expanding the plant’s GMW standard product line. In addition to galvanised rolled stock, cold-rolled carbon and high-resistance, galvanised two-phase grades will be shipped to GM Uzbekistan. The range of new grades that will be supplied by CherMK depends solely upon GM Uzbekistan’s needs, although most grades have already been produced on a test basis.

GMW standard rolled metal products will eventually be delivered to all GM divisions. Steel grades that meet the highest standards are made at CherMK as a part of the Customer Care Project. These grades meet the strictest requirements of the automobile industry, with many companies now switching over to integrated and unified platforms.
