OREANDA-NEWS. November 25, 2010. Air Bridge Cargo Airlines on the Hong Kong - Moscow (Vnukovo) - Frankfurt route land at Vnukovo International. An inbound Boeing 747-400F dedicated freighter that had brought in a sixteen-ton consignment destined for St. Petersburg, was handled within the shortest possible turnaround time of 2,5 hours.

Following the customs clearance and in-terminal handling of the delivered cargo, it will be shipped onward to its destination by a Vnukovo Cargo truck. This type of delivery falls into the category of intermodal cargo services.

Intermodal transportation of cargo is in effect an efficient mix-and-match of a variety of transport modes to ensure time-specific and economical delivery of all manner of consignments. This type of service is in particular demand on intercontinental routes when access to remote parts of the world is a must, which any one particular mode of transport is incapable of assuring.

JSC Vnukovo Cargo has been actively pursuing the development of this particular type of service and the first flight operated by JSC Air Bridge Cargo, one of Russia's largest cargo air carriers, is a significant step in this direction. A successful kick-off of this joint project will help put cargo air services like today's one on a regular footing.
