OREANDA-NEWS. November 24, 2010. The opening conference of the Clean Baltic Sea Shipping project took place in Stockholm, Sweden. The project in carried out by EU with the support of the Baltic Marine Environment Protection Commission, HELCOM and is part of HELCOM Baltic Sea Action Plan. Port Administrations of Sweden, Germany, Finland, Baltic states, other ports and Baltic cities authorities, scientific and public institutions, marine transport organizations, 40 in total, are the participants of the project. The FSUE “Rosmorport” Kaliningrad branch is associated partner of the project, reported the press-centre of Rosmorport.

Kaliningrad branch was represented by the senior specialist of the environment protection sector of the branch Ilya Valerievich Sidlo at the conference.

The Clean Baltic Sea Shipping project is intended for the period till 2013 and has the major purpose of decreasing air pollution by vessels in Baltic Sea and in the Baltic seaports in particular. The project suggests a range of measures, economic (for example, port dues differentiation for environmental safe vessels) and technical (installing coastal power supply connectors on vessels, reduction of sulphur content in fuel, gas powered ship engines installation and others).

The FSUE “Rosmorport” participation in the Clean Baltic Sea Shipping project will let the enterprise receive the European ports experience in environmental protection to use the knowledge received in protecting environment in Russian ports. That will form an environmental-friendly image of FSUE “Rosmorport” and the seaport of Kaliningrad.
