Ukraine and Libya to Intensify Economic Dialogue
OREANDA-NEWS. November 24, 2010. Ukraine and Libya have agreed to intensify political and economic dialogue. The Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov declared that to the journalists in Tripoli.
According to him, Ukraine and Libya have enormous potential for bilateral cooperation. In particular, according to the Head of the Government, there is every opportunity for radical increase in bilateral trade. "We agree with the Prime Minister of Libya, that we are not using our enormous potential" - Mykola Azarov said, adding that during 9 months the turnover between the two countries amounted only to 120 million USD.
Prime Minister of Ukraine informed that the parties agreed to raise the status of the Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Libyan Committee. Therefore, the decision is taken that now this Committee will function under the chairmanship of the Prime Ministers of Ukraine and Libya: "First, we raised the level of the Intergovernmental Commission, and the Prime Ministers headed the commission. Second, we specifically agreed with a number of areas today to develop programs with defined periods and executors and funding."
"In particular - Mykola Azarov said - today at the end of the day program of cooperation between Ukraine and Libya in agriculture will be worked out. In addition, Libya was interested in continuing cooperation in aviation and engineering, the defense complex, and studying the possibility of Ukrainian specialists participation in subway construction in Libya.
The Prime Minister of Ukraine noted that, unfortunately, covering past five years the agreements reached has not been performed, in turn, it did not contribute to the development of bilateral relations. Thus, Mykola Azarov said that in 2011 Ukraine would fulfill its obligation to supply aircraft to Libya.
The Head of the Government noted that the projects discussed today with the Libyan side would be supported by relevant cooperation programs.
