OREANDA-NEWS. November 18, 2010. According to its head Sergey Kiriyenko - “This year we’ll install (the systems) at three important facilities — these are federal nuclear centers and “Mayak”. According to the results of operation, we’ll “get through” the next summer, jointly with EMERCOM we’ll estimate the efficiency and then we plan to install such systems at all crucially important facilities”, S.Kiriyenko said at the meeting dedicated to fire safety issues, which was held on Friday by Prime Minister Vladimir Putin in Civil Defense Academy of EMERCOM of Russia.

Head of Rosatom added that, according to the experts’ estimates, installation of such system will allow to create a 15 km area around nuclear facilities where a fire can be easily detected. The system will respond automatically incase of fire.

As for improvement of fire safety at Rosatom’s enterprises, S.Kiriyenko said that the corporation would buy off-road vehicles. By now 51 cars have been replaced, another 85 are to be purchased at Rosatom’s expense, and another 75 — at the expense of EMERCOM of Russia.

Purchase of fire-extinguishing means for 72 branch enterprises will be another aspect of the program aimed at improvement of protection of nuclear facilities from fires. According to S. Kiriyenko, by next summer 1.052 bln rubles will have been appropriated for this.

He also noted that Rosatom jointly with EMERCOM had drawn up a program of specialized fire extinguishing equipment (robot systems) purchase for forest fire fighting. “We’re going to provide the nuclear facilities with 18 robot systems, four of which are to be purchased at the expense of EMERCOM, nine — at our own expense. Besides, another five additional systems will be manufactured not only for fire extinguishing but special emergency works which is possible due to the radioresistance of these robots”, he said.

S.Kiriyenko added that Rosatom had made provisions in the budget estimates in the amount of 235 mln rubles for this purpose. These systems will be added to 28 robots being already used by Rosatom.

The head of the corporation also reported on collective plans of Rosatom and EMERCOM concerning establishment of a joint center of robot systems use at the regional level in order “not to share them in case of emergency situation”.
