OREANDA-NEWS. November 12, 2010. ARMADA (MICEX, RTS: ARMD) announces the launch and successful exploitation of an off-the-shelf solution, the Automated System for Registration of Road Traffic Offences Using Video Recording Equipment and Administration of Fines, in St. Petersburg. The system is maintained on some of the city roads since May, 1st. In average, each camera registers and sends fines for more than 1000 traffic rules offences per day. At the same time the system has an ability to perform automatic data retrieval related to all passing vehicles in federal and local investigative databases.

The practice of photo and video recording of traffic offences revealed that the implementation of automated speed control systems on roads may bring the number of traffic accidents down by up to 86%. Once in place in St. Petersburg, this system is expected to lower the number of road traffic fatalities considerably with time — even bring it close to European rates, while simultaneously increasing the relevant extra revenue to the budget by 2 or 3 times.

The off-the-shelf solution for photo and video recording of road traffic offences was developed in 2009 as part of the federal project spearheaded by the Traffic Safety Department of the Interior Ministry of the Russian Federation in a bid to improve traffic safety throughout Russia. The off-the-shelf solution was developed by ARMADA in consortium with Rosbi Inform Co.

ARMADA’s plans are to continue launching the off-the-shelf solution in other Russian regions.
