ORLEN Lietuva and Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai Continue Negotiations
OREANDA-NEWS. November 12, 2010. After representatives of ORLEN Lietuva and Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai met in Vilnius, the parties agreed to present proposals on and to continue the negotiations for rail carriage tariffs and restoration of the railway section leading to Latvia, reported the press-centre of ORLEN Lietuva.
‘When dealing with logistic issues, which we consider to be one of the biggest challenges faced by the refinery, we expect from Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai constructive approach and economically feasible solutions to such issues especially because of the fact that, during the period of two years, the company has made no significant effort to restore the demounted railway section and that the today’s price paid by the refinery for petroleum product carriage in the direction of Klaipeda Port is almost twice bigger than that paid by Belorussian clients’, says Daniela Krelovska, Deputy General Director for Logistics of ORLEN Lietuva.
Since 2008, when the 19 kilometer railway section leading to Renge (Latvia) was demounted, the refinery is forced to carry its products along a longer 118 km route.
‘Both parties’ obligations in respect of the above process are especially important to the company ORLEN Lietuva, its clients, partners, employees, contractors and all of those who benefit from the refinery’s efficient operation and growth’, said D. Krelovska. According to her, the question why it takes so much time to restore such a short railway section and why no significant changes take place remains unanswered.
ORLEN Lietuva is one of the largest companies in Central Europe. The amount paid by the company into the Lithuanian budget since the year 2006 comprises 5.9 billion LTL. The company’s investments into the refinery’s modernization and development during the recent four years amount to over 2 billion LTL.
In order to ensure the efficiency of its business activities and to increase its profitability, ORLEN Lietuva continuously introduces new technologies, implements investment projects, modernizes the management. All these actions have led to the 99 percent exploitation of the refinery’s capacities.
