Russia to Help IAEA in Countries’ Access to Peaceful Nuclear Energy
OREANDA-NEWS. November 02, 2010. Moscow supported the International Atomic Energy Agency in nonproliferation and ensuring the states’ access to the benefits of peaceful nuclear energy
Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs said.
“There is a sustained dynamism in our relations with IAEA, and we want to comprehensively develop our good traditions, always strive to give full support to IAEA, try to make it contribute to achievement of the goals set by IAEA. First of all wider access of the states to the peaceful atom benefits and ensuring nonproliferation”, Lavrov said at the meeting with General Director of IAEA Yukiya Amano taken place in Moscow.
The minister also noted that Russia hoped that during the leadership of the new general director “we’ll cement these relations and make our cooperation more fruitful”. “We’ll support you in achieving your goals”, Lavrov said.
General Director of IAEA Yukiya Amano noted in his turn that the Agency was grateful to the Russian party for “support of IAEA activity”.
“At the beginning of my term I wanted to meet all politicians and all Russian important figures in the field of international relations to discuss some urgent issues, to learn more about the measures taken in the nuclear power industry, your country’s activity in this field”, Amano said.
