Russia and Ukraine Started Integration Evaluation of Nuclear Assets
OREANDA-NEWS. October 28, 2010. Deputy General Director for Rosatom Nuclear Fuel Vladislav Korogodin, reported this information, during the session of RF and Ukrainian nuclear scientists, where he spoke about plans for integration of nuclear power industries of the two countries.
“We have passed the staring stage of integration processes of all directions of the nuclear power sphere –nuclear cycle, engineering and generation. And now we have moved on to another phase of integration – assets evaluation phase,” he said.
In September the Ukraine announced the victory of TVEL, Russian Fuel Concern, in the tender for the construction of a nuclear fuel fabrication plant in the Ukraine. According to the energy strategy, the Ukraine planned to construct its own NPP fuel assembly fabrication plant till 2014. According to the “Ukrainian Nuclear Fuel” state target program, confirmed by the Cabinet of Ministers in September 2009, the nuclear fuel plant construction is to be implemented till 2013.
In July in Kiev General Director of Rosatom State Corporation Sergey Kiriyenko and Ukrainian Minister of Fuel and Energy Yuri Boyko signed the agreement on cooperation in construction of power units Nos. 3 and 4 of Khmelnitsk nuclear power plant. According to Rosatom’s estimation, the works will require 5–6 billion dollars.
In August the Ukraine also acquired 10% of shares of International Uranium Enrichment Centre (IUEC), based on Angarsk Electrolysis Chemical Integration Plant of Uranium Enrichment, established in 2007. 10% of IUEC shares belong to Kazakhstan, 80% — to Russia.
