American Partners Satisfied with Nuclear Materials Preservation
OREANDA-NEWS. October 25, 2010. Representatives of the National Laboratories of the US Department of Energy visited SCP OJSC.
The American delegation consisting of 10 people was headed by David Hayzenga – Chairman of the Russian-American cooperation program in the field of physical protection and accounting of nuclear materials in the Ministry of Energy of the USA. Director of State Secret and Information Protection Department of Rosatom State Corporation Anatoly Abalov also worked with the American delegation.
Within the framework of the visit there was a meeting with journalists of Tomsk and Seversk mass media where the results of cooperation between SCP OJSC and the Ministry of Energy of the USA were briefly summarized. Deputy Director for safety of SCP Yevgeny Kornev noted that the American party was satisfied with the results of work aimed at nuclear materials preservation. David Hayzenga confirmed his words and said: “We are absolutely sure of reliability of the systems created, we’ve seen both the equipment and complete professionalism of people operating it.” Having visited SCP OJSC plants, American attachй Catherine Vogler said: “I don’t see any difference between American and Russian facilities. We do everything in the same way! It proves conformance to the world standards.”
At present Congress is considering a possibility of prolongation of the program for 4–5 years. According to David Hayzenga, for the 15 years a great job has been done and it makes sense not to leave it unfinished but to go on. For the 15-year period over 50 million dollars were attracted to SCP. These funds have been spent on modernization of safety systems of all key plants of SCP and establishment of a number of new systems (for example, an automated access control system at SCP plants, special radio communications system, etc.). For the 15 years of the Russian-American cooperation substantial assistance has been rendered to SCP guard forces: training facilities have been modernized, special equipment, uniform, motor transport, communications facilities given.
