Moldova to Restore 11 Irrigation Systems
OREANDA-NEWS. October 20, 2010. This was communicated by CEO of the Millennium Challenge Corporation Daniel Yohannes in the frame of his visit to Slobozia-Dusca village, Criuleni region, where the irrigation system would be restored, noting that the system was covering more than 15,5 thousand ha of agricultural lands.
In turn, Prime Minister Vladimir Filat said that the funds provided would be used to restore the irrigation systems and roads, and would have a positive influence on the Moldavian people’s life. The project of restoration of irrigation system stipulates the replacement of 200 hydro-systems and 70 valves. Besides, the system will be automated, and the electricity consumption will reduce considerably.
As a result more than 770 ha of agricultural lands in Slobozia-Dusca and Criuleni will be irrigated, the productivity of agricultural plants per 1 ha will grow and their quality will improve before 2014. The overall amount of water users at the first stage will make up about 1400, 800 out of which in Slobozia-Dusca village.
At the same time, the experts of the Compact program will provide the consultations and help in implementation of the project of reforming of local irrigation system. A credit line for purchasing of equipment for sorting, packing, processing of agricultural products will be opened in the frame of this project.
The CEO of Millennium Challenge Corporation Daniel Yohannes is paying an official visit to Moldova on October 17-19 for launching of the Compact program. The agreement on it was signed between Moldova and USA in January 2010 and entered into force on September 1, 2010.
