OREANDA-NEWS. October 14, 2010. Belarus’ foreign commodity trade deficit amounted to USD 5.014 billion in January-August 2010, compared to a USD 4.651 billion deficit in January-August 2010, according to the National Statistics Committee.

Exports rose 20.6% in January-August 2010 year-on-year to USD 15.391 billion, and imports increased 15% to USD 20.405 billion.

Exports from Belarus included USD 8.367 billion worth of supplies to CIS states, up 47.8% on the year, including exports to Russia, which stood at USD 6.08 million, up 48.7% and to Kazakhstan at USD 316.6 million, up 54.5%.

Exports to non-CIS countries amounted to USD 7.025 billion as of September 1, 2010, down 5.5% on the year.

Belarusian imports from CIS countries rose 8.3% to USD 12.278 billion, including imports from Russia at USD 10.914 billion, up 4.8% on the year, and from Kazakhstan at USD 182.1 million, up 280%.

Imports from non-CIS countries went up 26.8% on the year to USD 8.127 billion.

The deficit of commodity trade with CIS countries came to USD 3.911 million, down 31.1% on the year in the period. The deficit of commodity trade with Russia fell 23.6% year-on-year in January-August 2010 to USD 4.833 million. In trade with Kazakhstan, Belarus showed a USD 134.5 million surplus, down 14.7%.

The deficit of foreign trade with countries outside the CIS reached USD 1.102 billion in January-August 2010, compared with a surplus of USD 1.025 billion surplus in January-August 2009.

The CIS accounted for 57.7% of Belarus’ trade turnover in January-August 2010, Russia accounted for 47.5%, while non-CIS foreign states are responsible for 42.3%.
