Russia and German Held Talks
OREANDA-NEWS. October 13, 2010. Talks between Dmitry Medvedev and President of the Federal Republic of Germany Christian Wulff took place in the Kremlin.
The talks focused in particular on cooperation in the sphere of new technologies, the establishment of technological alliances between Russian and German companies in such strategic sectors as energy, car manufacturing, energy efficiency and energy conservation, railway engineering and nuclear energy.
The two presidents also reviewed Russian-German ties as part of the Partnership for Modernisation strategy. In particular, they discussed the participation of Siemens in the establishment of the Skolkovo Innovation Centre. Dmitry Medvedev noted that Russia is very interested in attracting German partners to the project.
Development of cooperation in research and technology was also discussed. There will be new opportunities for expanding such ties in 2011, which has been announced as the Russian-German Year of Science and Education.
Other subjects of discussion included a wide range of joint cultural projects and the expansion of youth exchanges, whose number has increased four-fold in the past five years. At present active efforts are being made on the organisation of joint exhibitions timed to coincide with the celebration of the 70th anniversary of Victory in World War II in 2015 and on the establishment of a network of bilingual Russian/German schools in Germany.
Dmitry Medvedev and Christian Wulff exchanged opinions on the formation of a new European security architecture, including Russia’s new European Security Treaty initiative, Russia-EU and Russia-NATO cooperation, as well as contacts within the G8 and G20 framework.
