Moldova to Get Chairmanship in TRACECA IGC Commission for 1 year
OREANDA-NEWS. October 13, 2010. As it was informed in the Ministry of Economy of Moldova, this will take place within the 8th conference of TRACECA Intergovernmental (IGC) Commission, held in Brussels.
The delegation from Moldova will consist of: Deputy Minister of Economy Octavian Calmic, Deputy Minister of Transport and Roads Infrastructure Boris Gherasim, National Secretary TRACECA Eduard Biriukov. They will also participate in TRACECA International Forum, held under the patronage of the European Commission.
This event is very important for our country as three out of four projects, studied within the investment forum, are destined for Moldova, confirming the advantages and possibility to develop the partner relations in the frame of TRACECA Intergovernmental expert group. The relevant three projects passed the expertise of the specialists of the European Commission within TRACECA technical assistance program and stipulate: creation of international logistics center in the Marculesti International Airport totaling to EUR 16,7 million, construction of 19,1 km road section Porumbeni-Cimislia on Chisinau-Giurgiulesti highway totaling to EUR 23,8 million, construction of 17,9 km road section (Comrat ring road) on Chisinau-Giurgiulesti highway totaling to EUR 16,56 million.
The transport project TRACECA (Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia) was founded in 1993 at the conference in Brussels and initially included 8 countries. Now TRACECA joins 13 countries aiming at improvements in trade and transport along the Europe-Caucasus-Asia Corridor. Ukraine and Mongolia were accepted in TRACECA Program in 1996, Moldova – in 1999, Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey – in 2002.
The main purpose of the Program is to facilitate the access of the countries-participants to the international network of road, air and railway transport, commercial marine navigation, as well as to increase the volume of international passenger- and cargo traffic.
