Vilnius Airport Changes Its Management Structure
OREANDA-NEWS. October 12, 2010. A new structure of Vilnius International Airport (VIA) has become effective by the approval of the Board as of 1 October and a stage of restructuring the airport management is about to end. It is estimated that the changed structure of the enterprise, optimised number of employees, reduced management costs and increased labour efficiency will save LTL 15 million next year, reported the press-centre of VIA.
A new Department of Administration, which joins the Human Resources Department, the Department of Legal Affairs and Vindication, the Department of Public Procurement, the Department of Communications and the Department of Document Management, has come to life. The structure of other departments undergoes changes as well. VIA will now have the total of 5 departments (Department of Aviation Security, Department of Infrastructure, Department of Finances, Department of Commerce and Department of Administration).
“The need to change the existing management structure of the airport was determined by the objective to reduce the management costs of the enterprise to the maximum degree possible. We are trying to reduce the costs of the administrative apparatus, which have been way too high for a rather small Vilnius Airport, and the new structure will guarantee its efficient operation. The mentioned changes make up the last stage of the enterprise restructuring processes, which were already planned and discussed a year ago,” the Managing Director of VIA Tomas Vaisvila says.
According to the head of the airport, the remaining number of employees at the enterprise is sufficient for successful performance of its direct activities. Following the universal practice, the activities that are not typical of airports are transferred to external service providers.
In the course of restructuring, a bit more than 300 employees out of the former 425 employees will retain their jobs in the enterprise until the end of the year.
The employees of VIA made redundant will be paid redundancy compensations; they will also be provided the services of career counselling provided by the employment agency, which will help the redundant employees to get integrated into the labour market. The new companies, which will provide their services at the airport, will be proposed to give priority to the employees made redundant by VIA in hiring new staff.
