GLONASS Comes to Russian Schools
OREANDA-NEWS. October 11, 2010. Movement of the scholar buses in Yekaterinburg are now controlled from space: the bus of Verhniaya Pyzhma school is equipped with GLONASS.
In addition, the students get explanations about operations of the Russian Global Navigation system.
Currently, there are 26 satellites in the orbital constellation, with 4 more to be added by the end of this year.
GLONASS equipment looks like a small black box. It is installed on the scholar buses in order to maintain vehicle positioning and proper response to any road accident.
Dispatcher, or school principal, can ‘see’ the bus on the screen of the computer, as well as control fuel consumption.
