OREANDA-NEWS. October 06, 2010. This was communicated by Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Valeriu Cosarciuc at the press conference, dedicated to the results of the annual activity of the ministry. Valeriu Cosarciuc said that in a day or two the Moldavian authorities would receive a letter, expressing the readiness of the European structures to increase the quotas for export of Moldavian wines to the European market, signed by European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Dacian Ciolos and European Commissioner for Trade Karel De Gucht.

In order to enter into force the relevant decision must be approved by the European Parliament. In this context the minister noted that the harvest of grapes in 2010 would be lower – about 270 thousand tons because of bad weather, in comparison with 350-400 thousand tons in 2009. Pursuant to the agreements, the quota for 2011 should account for 1 million dal, and for 2012 – 1,2 million dal.

Earlier, Deputy Minister of Economy Octavian Calmic said that the quota for preferential export of Moldavian wine to the amount of 800 thousand dal for 2010 would be assimilated in October-November 2010. It should be noted that Moldova has received the quotas for preferential export of wine and other products to EU countries since March 1, 2008.
