OREANDA-NEWS. October 04, 2010. 5 to 7 October, the International Conference SG-Iron and CG-Iron Are the Metals of Future will be held and hosted by KAMAZ-Metallurgy Plc.. The event will be supported by the Russian Foundrymen Association. About 80 enterprises and scientific centers that somehow or other related to the foundry industry, have already confirmed their participation in the conference. The geography of the conferees is the very various. They are from St. Petersburg, Moscow, Togliatti, Chelyabinsk, Yekaterinburg, Magnitogorsk, Novosibirsk, and will be also present representatives of foreign companies such as HEINRICH WAGNER SINTO (HWS) which is a German foundry equipment manufacturer known all over the world, and Elkem Foundry Products Division (Elkem AS), the Norwegian oldest manufacturer and supplier of materials for foundries.

Today, the world and Russian automobile manufacturers show their deep interest in SGI and CGI. Castings made of these metals have better quality and machinability.

It is not by chance that KAMAZ Foundry has been chosen as the place for a meeting of such scale. The KAMAZ foundrymen have gained great experience in manufacturing of products made of these materials, and acquired a significant production and science-linkage potential.

In September, 2010, it was already 30 years as the official decision had been made to start mastering the production of the spheroidal graphite iron in the KAMAZ Foundry. For the period of 30 years the foundrymen have learnt to produce the SGI by four different ways.

“It is planned to discuss the matters concerning the technology and inoculation methods, melting equipment, occupational safety and health, safety measures, etc.,” tells Eduard V. Panfilov, the Foundry Chief Engineer and Technical Director of KAMAZ-Metallurgy Plc..- “We hope that the meeting will permit not only to exchange experience, discuss problems and achievements in the field but also to stir the interest of potential customers in foundry industry and products of KAMAZ-Metallurgy Plc.”

In December, 2009, one of the issues of the FOUNDRY magazine was fully dedicated to the KAMAZ foundries and to the results of iron making in particular. It made possible for the KAMAZ foundrymen to announce about themselves in the Ministry of Automobile Industry of the Russian Federation where the Program of Innovation Projects Support and Financing is under consideration this year. The KAMAZ Foundry became one of the first included therein.

“The metallurgical unit of AvtoVaz, Tunayevo factory (the city of Yaroslavl) and GAZ were included in the Support Program besides us. They are large-scale enterprises in Russia,” tells Eduard Panfilov. – “ It is important to note that among our colleagues we have a number of advantages, related, first of all, to our experience in mastering of SGI manufacture and, specially, to the methods of ladle inoculation of iron by treatment with a cored wire. We also have some unique achievements in the field of CGI making. Having mastered the technique, we probably are the only in Russia who has been regularly supplying the products in compacted graphite iron for the several years.”

The progress in the development of the foundry industry and perspectives will be a matter to discuss at the forthcoming conference. It was preliminarily announced about more than 30 reports addressed to the conference and the representatives of KAMAZ-Metallurgy Plc. will inform on their achievements as well. Therefore, even today they may say without doubt that the meeting will be effective and will inspire the further development of the foundry industry.
