Unique 100-Metre Column Delivered to Port of Tobolsk
OREANDA-NEWS. September 30, 2010. The massive column for the propane dehydrogenation plant has been successfully delivered to the industrial port city of Tobolsk. The installation is 96 metres in length and 11 metres in diameter, and it weighs 1,095 tonnes.
The column for one of the largest polypropylene production complexes, being erected by the SIBUR Holding, was produced in South Korea and shipped by sea through the Panama Canal to Arkhangelsk, at which point it was reloaded onto a special barge. The equipment was then shipped through the Northern Sea Route from Archangelsk to the industrial port of Tobolsk, located on the Irtysh River. For the shipment of these goods to the Tobolsk port, work was carried out with respect to the expansion of the port’s technical capabilities and dredging. Both in relation to the complexity of this work and the involvement of technological and human resources, the delivery of this equipment is a unique development for the world on the whole and for the Russian petrochemical industry in particular.
At present, the column for the propane dehydrogenation plant has already been offloaded to land. Its transport to the site of the "Tobolsk-Polymer" industrial complex is scheduled to occur in October.
Shipments of large-sized equipment are to be delivered to Tobolsk in the third quarter of 2010. Within the duration of the construction works, a total of 23 units of large-sized heavy-duty equipment are expected to be delivered.
In addition, in 2010 alone, within the framework of supplying the general cargo to the site, the company expects the arrival of more than 200 containers, 200 railroad cars and 470 automobile trailers.
