OREANDA-NEWS. September 27, 2010. Dagestan Office of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (OFAS Russia) initiated three cases against suppliers of food products (buckwheat, chicken eggs and sunflower oil for the signs of violating Part 2 Article 11 of the Federal Law “On Protection of Competition” – exercising actions that lead to fixing and maintaining excessive prices for food products, reported the press-centre of FAS Russia. 

Executing FAS Russia’s instructions to regularly monitor prices for agricultural products and, if necessary, undertake immediate enforcement measures should any antimonopoly violations be revealed, Dagestan OFAS Russia is inspecting whether increase of prices for socially important food products are justified.

Dagestan OFAS Russia monitored prices for the main food products in 13 food stores in Makhachkala. OFAS formed three mobile teams that visited supermarkets and food stores and analyzed prices for the main food products. The monitoring showed that some products such as buckwheat, chicken eggs, sunflower oil became more expensive.

Since the beginning of the summer, prices for buckwheat and eggs have doubled and prices for sunflower oil have increased by 15%.

On 15th September 2010, Dagestan OFAS Russia initiated three antimonopoly cases against suppliers of the above food products to supermarkets and food stores in Makhachkala, based on the discovered facts of concerted actions towards maintaining prices for supplies of buckwheat, eggs and sunflower oil to supermarkets and food stores in Makhachkala.

“The cases will be investigated, we will request necessary information. Should antimonopoly violations be recognized, we will make relevant decision and responsible persons will be made administratively liable”, says Acting Head of OFAS Russia, Jamilya Khallaeva.

Cases are scheduled on 11th October 2010.
