OREANDA-NEWS. September 22, 2010. Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk hosted a workshop of representatives of the Central Office of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS Russia) and its regional offices on developing cross-border cooperation between FAS Russia and the State Administration for Industry and Commerce of the People’s Republic of China (SAIC), reported the press-centre of FAS Russia.

Participants discussed prospective cooperation between Russian and Chinese antimonopoly bodies in the border regions on the basis of the Cooperation Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the People’s Republic of China in the field of unfair competition and antimonopoly policy (25th April 1996), as well as the Programmes for Cross-Border Cooperation with Heilongjiang SAIC and Jilin SAIC. FAS officers talked about the need to expand cooperation with their SAIC within the framework of international organizations and associations. In particular, they discussed collaboration with Chinese colleagues within the BRIC framework in view of the 2nd BRIC International оCompetition Conference in China in 2011. Co-organizers of the conference are competition authorities of Brazil, Russia, India and China.

The workshop also discussed the issues of intensifying cooperation with SAIC through the “Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation” Forum.

To intensify cross-border cooperation, workshop participants found it necessary to develop such mechanisms of interaction as information exchange, and supply information about opened cases on a regular basis to be familiar with ongoing activities of another party.

As pointed out by Lesya Davydova, the Head of the FAS Russia’s Department for International Co-Operation: “Intensification of cooperation with SAIC is one of the strategic areas of international cooperation for FAS Russia”.
