Kazakhtelecom Set up WLL CDMA Network in Aktobe Oblast
OREANDA-NEWS. September 20, 2010. In Aktobe oblast the second stage of project "Setting up WLL CDMA network in rural settlements of Aktobe oblast" by Kazakhtelecom has been completed. After its implementation 70% of the territory is covered by wireless network, and the waiting list of those wanting to have a fixed line phone has been reduced virtually 50 times, reported the press-centre of KASE.
According to Aktobe oblast Telecommunications Direction (hereinafter OTD), in January 2008, before the start of setting up the WLL CDMA network the number of region's rural residents in need of a fixed line phone being on the waiting list equaled to 2,779 persons, and just over two and a half years later (as at August 1, 2010 г.) the number of those on the waiting list makes up 60 persons. A total of 5,125 applications were registered in Aktobe oblast as of January 1, 2008, by August 1 of this year only 105 of them are still outstanding, according to OTD.
Kazakhstelecom has managed to reduce the number of those in need of a fixed telephone almost 50 times thanks to implementation of the programme of setting up WLL CDMA network which is part of the republican project "Modernization and development of telecommunications networks in rural areas by use of CDMA technology". Altogether, since the project start 48 CDMA-450 base stations with an intake of 13,613 numbers have been set up. A total of 284 rural settlements in 12 areas have been equipped with CDMA, 70% of the oblast territory is now covered with wireless network.
