Klaipeda Port Presents Cargo Handling in January-June
OREANDA-NEWS. September 10, 2010. During seven month of this year the cargo handling in KlaipedaPort increased by 13,2 percent. The turnover of dry / bulk cargo increased nearly by the third part, the turnover of general cargo, particularly ro – ro cargo, with consumer goods making the major part, increased as well, reported the press-centre of Klaipeda Port.
This year the tendency of increased cargo volumes transported (calculating both in tons and in units) by sea ferries has been observed in the Port. The volume of Ro – Ro cargo handled in July of this year reached up to 355,4 thousand tons or more by 32,3 percent if to compare with July of 2009.
The record handling increase was reached calculating Ro-Ro cargo in units. Totally 22 509 units of wheel mechanisms were handled and this number exceeded the index of the previous year by 32,9 percent. This index is the highest one not only since the beginning of the year, but since 2009 as well.
KlaipedaPort has been improving the rate of containerised cargo handling of 2009. 23 158 TEU of containerised cargo, i.e. more by 12,5 percent than in July of the last year, was handled in July of this year.
Totally 17,4 million tons of sea cargo were handled in the Port in January – July of 2010, and this is more by 13,2percent than during the corresponding period of 2009. Such result was mostly determined by the increased handling of natural and chemical fertilizers (+1 447,9 thousand tons), Ro-Ro cargo (+637,8 thousand t),containerised cargo (+447,9 thousand tons), minerals and construction materials (+166,6 thousand tons).
According to cargo groups the handling of dry and bulk cargo increased mostly (28,7 percent), totally 6 565,9thousand tons (37,8 percent of the total cargo handling of the Port) were handled. The handling of general cargo jumped up by 28,3 percent, the cargo volume in this group was 5 406,6 thousand tons (31,0 percent.). The handling of liquid cargo dropped down by 13,0 percent, in total
5 444,9 thousand tons (31,2 proc.) were handled.
In July of this year 2 402,6 thousand tons of cargo were handled in Klaipeda Port and it wasmore by 5,7 percent than in the same month of the previous year.
