OREANDA-NEWS. September 9, 2010. COMSTAR – United TeleSystems (JSC COMSTAR-UTS, LSE: CMST), the leading supplier of integrated telecommunication solutions in Russia and the CIS, announces completion of works aimed at enhancement of IP network and migration of its Internet user traffic to fiber optic transport communication network owned by the MTS Group (Mobile TeleSystems JSC, NYSE: MBT) in the direction Moscow – Saint Petersburg – Stockholm.

In summer 2010, COMSTAR-UTS performed works to enhance capacity of its IP network connecting COMSTAR-UTS communication centers in Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Stockholm. The capacity has doubled to reach 120 Gbps. Besides, by September, COMSTAR-UTS and MTS have completed transfer of capacities from leased communication channels used by COMSTAR-UTS for its subscriber Internet traffic transfer north-westward, to MTS communication channels. Earlier, in H1 2010, COMSTAR-UTS and MTS implemented a similar project related to migrate to the MTS communication network in the direction Moscow – Ukraine.

“As a part of COMSTAR-UTS integration with MTS, we continue to develop the process of traffic migration to the network of our principal shareholder. This allows us to reduce costs by saving money on use of communication channels of third-party carriers and to enhance efficiency and operational safety of communication networks. Enhancement of IP network capacity in the direction of Stockholm is a response to fast growing traffic consumption by COMSTAR subscribers. An interest in Internet content is growing, and we are permanently tracing down the increasing load on our networks and regularly enhance capacities,” Viktor Belov, Service Platforms and Networks Development Director of JSC COMSTAR-UTS said.

Currently, COMSTAR international network is connected to the global network in multiple major nodes in London, Stockholm, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Paris, Los Angeles and New York.
