The power generation block will be formed on the basis of Lietuvos Energija by reorganizing and centralizing generation capacities and transferring auxiliary functions to service enterprises. Seeking a more efficient management of the operation processes, the head office of the block will be located in Elektrenai – the place where major operations are concentrated. 60 employees of Lietuvos Energija will start working in Elektrenai on September 13.

According to Mr. Koryzna, the concentration of specialists in Elektrenai will enable expeditious solutions concerning the tasks of electricity generation and its development projects, as well as saving lease and other infrastructure related costs. Furthermore, the concentration of generation in one company will be useful to respective service enterprises and business partners – there will be a major client on the market who manages the principal power economy in a single place, in line with uniform principles.
The generation block, formed on the basis of Lietuvos Energija, is one of the four functional blocks to be designed in implementing the power sector plan. Other units will cover the areas of electricity transmission, distribution and service. According to the estimates previously announced by the Ministry of Energy, the restructured energy enterprises will result in saving approx. 10 per cent of costs over a year, while more efficiently operating companies of the sector will create added value to shareholders and guarantee stable electricity prices for consumers.
