OREANDA-NEWS. September 06, 2010. JSC “Aeroflot – Russian Airlines” confirms that it has received about USD52 mln that was embezzled from it over ten years ago and until now stayed frozen in Switzerland. The assets were returned to the Russian airline by decision of Switzerland court instances. It is an approximate equivalent of the damage inflicted on Aeroflot by criminal actions of a group of persons in the 1990s, reported the press-centre of Aeroflot.

The transfer has been performed on August 27 of this year. The assets have been transferred to a bank account of JSC “Aeroflot”.

The decision to return the funds to Aeroflot that had suffered financial fraud was made in response to an inquiry for legal assistance from the General Prosecution Office of the Russian Federation. As noted in the ruling of Switzerland federal judge Maria-Antonella Bino, this decision was based on a “legally valid and enforceable judgement” by a “competent Russian court”.

“Aeroflot is satisfied by the actions of the Switzerland party, - says Vitaly Savelyev, Director General of JSC “Aeroflot – Russian Airlines”. – I believe that they favor not only the Russian business at home and abroad, but also the relationships between the two countries in general. I would like to specially note the activities of Russian judicial instances on this issue and their cooperation with the institutions in Switzerland”.
