Moldova to Join Single European Sky
OREANDA-NEWS. August 30, 2010. As it was informed in press service of the Government, the letter with request on soonest start of negotiations was sent by Prime Minister Vladimir Filat to President of European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso. According to the letter, Moldova supports the liberalization of air transportation and access of low cost airlines in the country.
According to Vladimir Filat, the conclusion of the treaty on creation of single airspace with EU is one of the priorities for Moldova. In order to provide the efficient and dynamic negotiations between Moldova and EU, Moldavian Premier proposed to send in the country in the near future a mission for assessment of level of readiness of Moldova for liberalization of airspace and for determination of the group of EU negotiators for discussions on new frames of collaboration with Moldova in the field of air transport.
Vladimir Filat expressed hope that after the assessments of the EU mission the European Commission would accelerate preparation of proposals for the EU Council in order to approve the necessary mandate for start of negotiations with Moldova. Vladimir Filat emphasized joining of Moldova to Single European Sky was the important step in the process of European Integration of the country; it would favor development of national economy, result in reduction of prices for air tickets, facilitate access of low cost airlines, favor development of tourist industry.
The Single European Sky consists of all EU member-states, states-candidates for joining, Switzerland and Norway. The joining to the Single European Sky means approaching of Moldova to EU security standards in order that the citizens of the country used the European standards in the field of aviation.
