OREANDA-NEWS. August 24, 2010. The expected grain yield for Russia in 2010 is 60-67 million tons. These numbers were announced by Alexander Petrikov, the Secretary of State and Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, at the press-conference, which took place within the framework of the International agro-industrial exhibition and fair “Agrorus 2010” , which has opened in “Lenexpo” exhibition an congress center.
According to Mr. Petrikov, an unusually hot summer resulted in severe drought in 35 Regions of Russia. The situation is very difficult but controlled. At present 19 million hectares of stubble-fields have been harvested, and the country has already got 40 million tons of threshed grain. But still the financial losses are estimated at more than 30 billion rubles. Russian inside grain demand is around 75 million tons; missing amount will be supplied by the reserve fund, which has already been announced by the country’s authorities. It is decided to supply over 8 million tons of forage grain directly without agents and trading operations.
But experts believe these measure will not be able to stop the raise of prices. Of course, it will make all baked goods rise in price as well. St. Petersburg trade chains and large supermarkets have announced the expected raise of purchasing prices. City’ authorities are planning to take all possible measures to stop the price growth at least for the most common “social kinds of bread”. There are some ideas regarding the personal City bread-baking plant.
But “Agrorus 2010” demonstrates a complete abundance of baking goods, including famous Tula spice-cakes. Trading stalls attract visitors with irresistible smell of freshly –baked bread, fruit, vegetables, honey and spices. All St. Petersburg citizens and guests will be captured by this traditional Harvest Festival for the whole week.
