RTS Released Stock Market Weekly Trading Results

OREANDA-NEWS. August 23, 2010. Over the week of August 16-20, 2010, the RTS Index went down by 1.41% to reach 1,425.03 points (1,445.37 points as of August 13, 2010). Most of the negative impact on the RTS Index dynamics was related to the falling prices for ordinary shares of Sberbank (SBERS) (down 7.17 points) followed by ordinary shares of Gazprom (GAZPS) (down 4.20 points) and ordinary shares of Surgutneftegas (down 3.58 points).

The RTS Standard Index, the blue chips index, lost 0.98% to reach 9,357.10 points (9,449.48 points as of August 13, 2010). The "second-tier" stock index – RTS-2 experienced a decrease of 1.70% closing at 1,734.30 points (1,764.34 points as of August 13, 2010). Last week most of the key economy sectors represented on the Russian stock market demonstrated a negative trend. The largest decline was reported by the power industry, with the RTS Electric Utilities Index shedding 3.21%. A significant decrease was also shown by the telecommunication and oil & gas sectors, with the RTS Telecom Index going down by 2.50% and the RTS Oil & Gas Index decreasing by 1.21%. The largest growth was reported by the metallurgy sector, with the RTS Metals & Mining Index adding 0.37%

The regional index, RTS Siberia Index, lost 1.87%.

Last week the US dollar appreciated by 0.05% against the ruble to reach 30.46 rubles per US dollar (30.45 rubles as of August 13, 2010).

The total securities trading volume on RTS for the week of August 16-20, 2010 equaled USD12.54 billion (381.97 billion rubles*), including all types of trades. The trading volume on RTS Standard totaled USD1,674.21 million.

The week's top sellers were Sberbank ordinary shares (SBER) with a turnover of USD762.32 million followed by Gazprom ordinary shares (GAZP) with a turnover of USD342.24 million and ordinary shares of ОАО "LUKOIL" (LKOH) with a turnover of USD136.07 million. The share of each security in the total trading volume made up 44.97%, 20.19% and 8.03% respectively.

The week's top gainers were ordinary shares of ОАО " VEROPHARM"  (VRPH)  that went up by 13.60% to USD38.85 followed by preferred shares of Transneft  (TRNFP) – by 12.97% to USD1150 and ordinary shares of "FGC UES ", JSC  (FEES) – by 7.24% to reach USD0.012.

The week's top losers were preferred shares of JSC Dorogobuzh  (DGBZP) that fell 8.57% to reach USD0.32 followed by preferred shares of Sberbank (SBERP) that lost 6.04% to reach USD1.79 and ordinary shares of JSC "RusHydro"  (HYDR) that shed 6% to reach USD0.0517.
