Russia and Mongolia May Establish Uranium Mining Joint Venture
OREANDA-NEWS. August 20, 2010. The State Duma will discuss the agreement with Mongolia on the establishment of a uranium mining Joint Venture.
The RF Government brought to the State Duma ratification an intergovernmental agreement with Mongolia on the establishment of “Dornod Uran” Joint Venture Limited Liability Company.
The project implementation will help to establish a uranium mining enterprise with uranium reserve of more than 50 thousand tons. 22 thousand tons of uranium are at Mardai Deposit (Dornod). The agreement was signed on August 25, 2009 in Ulan-Batore city by General Director of Rosatom State Corporation Sergey Kirienko and Head of Mongolian Nuclear Energy Department Sodnomyn Enkhbat.
Russia has become the first country to sign an agreement on the uranium joint venture with Mongolia. In equal shares the company founders are represented by the following enterprises: on the part of Russia — Atomredmetzoloto OJSC (ARMZ) and on the part of Mongolia — “MonAtom” Limited Liability Company. Dornod was explored in the 70-ies of the last century by Soviet geologists. The active mining was performed in 1988–1955. The raw materials were processed in Priargunsk Mining-Chemical Production Association located 200 kilometers far from that place.
