TATNEFT Turns Waste into Profit
OREANDA-NEWS. August 18, 2010. OAO TATNEFT is continuously working to reduce anthropogenic impact on the environment by collecting and recycling of waste generated in the crude oil production process. This is one of the environmental activities of the Company, reported the press-centre of TATNEFT.
The oilmen have created a comprehensive system for collecting and recycling of production wastes and their consumption and utilization as raw materials for producing marketable products. This system includes processing crude oil sludge, worn-out tires, waste rubber products, plastic waste, waste cable, spent industrial and motor oils.
There are four crude oil sludge processing plants located uniformly across the whole territory of crude oil production.
The plant for processing of worn-out tires is capable of utilizing them in the amount of 1.5 thousand tons per year. Products received after processing (steel cord, carbon black, liquid solvent) are used as secondary raw materials.
The granulation line of polyethylene wastes is capable of recycling all plastic wastes generated and to bring them back to the main production. 2.5 thousand tons of plastic wastes have been recycled during the years of the lines service.
The line for recycling waste cable allows you to separate the cable by all components (polyethylene, non-ferrous metal wires and metal armor). The resulting secondary raw materials are used in manufacturing enameled wires, plastic bobbins, various technical polyethylene products and consumer goods. The armor is sent for re-melting. Over 18 thousand km of cable products have been processed during the years of plant's operation yielding about 6 tons of copper wire and producing more than 3 thousand tons of granulated recycled polyethylene.
A special installation of "Kleckner" Company is used for regeneration of waste oils. Used oils treated by this technology meet the technical requirements of the oil applied for lubrication of oil field equipment. The installation allows processing more than 4.8 thousand tons of waste oil per year. The yield of purified oil amounts to 75%.
The Company pays much attention to collecting and recycling ferrous metal wastes. In 2009, structural divisions of OAO TATNEFT delivered more than 15 thousand tons of scrap metal for recycling. The total volume of wastes generated in 2009 amounted to 94 thousand tons accounting for 11 thousand tons reduction compared with 2008. Specific waste generation per one ton of crude oil produced was 3.6 kg, which is 10% lower than in 2008.
