Azerbaijan Resumes Limited Power Import
OREANDA-NEWS. August 16, 2010. This July Azerbaijan resumed import of electricity that has not influenced on Azerbaijan’s position as net exporter of power the country, achieved in July 2008 for the first time in its independent history.
Over the last seven months power export exceeded import 5.7-fold in volume and 4.9-fold in value terms.
The record was registered for Jan-Feb when country’s power export exceeded import in both volume (20.8-fold) and value terms (21.95-fold).
Last year the country also observed substantial rise of import in physical volume (5.3-fold) and in financial volume (5.45-fold).
Over 2008 export exceeded import 3.03 fold in volume and 2.6 fold in value terms. In 2007, power import exceeded export in volume 1.75 fold and was less in value terms 2.42 fold.
The State Customs Committee (SCC) informs that in January to July 2010 the country exported 231.2 million kWh of power in the amount of USD 8.817 million and imported 40.4 million kWh in the amount of USD 1.807 million. As the result, export price of electricity was USD 0.0381 per kWh and import price - USD 0.0447.
This July 23.1 million kWh were exported to the sum of USD 812,100 while import was 3.4 million kWh in the amount of USD 141,900. Export was carried out at the price of USD 0.0352 and import at USD 0.0418.
In 2009, the country exported 710.4 million kWh of power for USD 27.939 million and imported 133.9 million kWh for USD 5.126 million.
In 2008, export totaled 808.8 million kWh for USD 27.357 million and import made 266.5 million kWh for USD 10.5 million. For comparison: in 2007 Azerbaijan exported 443.3 million kWh of power for USD 9.666 million and imported 773.7 million kWh for USD 23.4 million.
Over 2009, average power export price made up USD 0.0393 per kWh and import price USD 0.0383 per kWh.
Average power export price made USD 0.0338 per kWh and import price USD 0.0395, in 2008 and USD 0.0218 and USD 0.0303 respectively in 2007.
