FGC UES Completed Testing of Unique Short Circuit Protection System
OREANDA-NEWS. August 12, 2010. JSC "FGC UES" affiliate - Main Power Networks (MES) of North-West – has successfully tested the differential line protection (DLP) of the 750 kV
DPL terminals are designed to protect power lines from the effects of short circuit currents. They are being installed in the substations buildings at the power lines terminals and are connected by fiber-optic communication lines. Built-in DPL information technology data processing algorithms allow for early detection of the short circuit on the line and pass the operational and technological information to the dispatch consoles of the substations. This system helps improve the efficiency of emergency recovery actions introduced by the company under contingency conditions.
North-West MES personnel together with the experts from Kalinin Nuclear Power Plant, LLC “West-Telecom” and Siemens have developed a number of technical solutions that support the transfer of technological information on the status of long-haul transmission power lines via fiber-optic communication channels even though the route of the fiber-optic line does not necessarily coincide with the route of transmission power lines. The solutions developed by the team of researchers have formed the basis of the corporate R&D Programme "The test of the differential protection for transmission lines 750 kV Kalinin Nuclear Power Plant – SS Leningradskaya when changing the synchronization parameters and digital communication channel”.
