OREANDA-NEWS. August 10, 2010. “ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih” has opened a new policlinic for its employees in Kryviy Rih, thus fulfilling one of its key social investor obligations according to the Sale and Purchase Agreement. Total investment in the project reached 27,3 mln. UAH, out of which 12,3 mln. UAH were spent on purchasing modern medical equipment.

Rinat Starkov, acting CEO, ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih: “I am glad to start my work as a CEO at ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih with opening this important social facility, which serves as a perfect example of our commitment to fulfill investor obligations. Taking care about our employees is a priority of the ArcelorMittal’s social policy and I commit to pay necessary attention to this issue. Nearly 27,000 of our employees will undergo professional medical checkups this year. The new policlinic will make medical checkups faster, easier, and – most important - more efficient, since it has all the necessary modern equipment. I believe investing in the staff’s health and safety means investing in prosperous business on a long run.”

The new policlinic will become a part of the ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih’s extensive medical service, which includes medical prevention facility “Jerelo”, medical facility of the Mining and Benefication Division and 23 medical points all over the enterprise. Unlike workers of Mining and Benefication Division, who have their own separate policlinic, metallurgists and coke chemists of ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih have been using medical facility, located on the rented premises in one of the city hospitals. Now they will have at their disposal a separate new policlinic, equipped with the up-to-date medical equipment.

Nataliya Poltavets, Acting Deputy Director for medical issues, “ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih”: “Our pride and joy is a digital x-ray diagnostics system by Siemens with overall capacity of 60 000 x-rays, capable of making 60 x-rays per hour with minimal radiation exposure. Also worth to be mentioned is a large-scale mammography devise (Adoni, USA), which enables us to do high-quality digital x-rays in just 15 minutes and reveal breast cancer at a very early stage. We also have special medical equipment for diagnosing professional diseases. For example, vibrometer will assist neurologist in diagnosing vibro-desease that affects people operating heavy machinery. Equipment of this policlinic reflects the fact that this is a place where employees of ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih will undergo their regular professional medical check-ups and this new equipment will allow us to reveal, prevent and cure many professional illnesses”.

The new policlinic is fully computerized and equipped with its own server, which will allow storing all the data in digital form and avoiding unnecessary paper work.

The general contractor of the project was local “Kryvorizhindustroy” company, subcontractors were also chosen among local companies and as a result 300 local workers secured job for the period of the construction.

Next key social obligation by ArcelorMittal according to the SPA – residence housing construction – will be fulfilled in September, when construction of the two new buildings will be over and 165 apartments will be provided to the enterprise employees for free.
