OREANDA-NEWS. August 09, 2010. Prime Minister Vlad Filat paid a working visit to the Nemteni settlement, Hincesti district, central Moldova, the government's communications and press relations department has said.

The prime minister took knowledge on the spot of the results of the works to consolidate the protection dam which yielded on the night of 6 to 7 July 2010. Vlad Filat was informed that, on the night to 3 August, an additional protection dam was raised near the above dam, which aims at preventing eventual floods in the Nemteni village. The setting of this dam will allow starting works to repair the protection dam from Nemteni.

At the same time, the prime minister was informed that five pumps are used to evacuate the accumulated water, and the workers will manage to do this during 3-4 days. Most water fell from the Nemteni village, while in the village of Cotul Morii, the water level dropped by one metre. Specialists estimate that the water will fully subside in ten days.

"The situation has stabilized in the region. The waters are falling, which means that the inquiry commissions may start works to assess the damages," Vlad Filat said.

The prime minister also said that an inquiry commission, made up of diverse specialists, will carry out an investigation on who is responsible for the yielding of the Nemteni dam.

Vlad Filat discussed with the flood victims from Nemteni and Cotul Morii, who showed interest in the march of works to construct houses.
