Metallurgical Plant A.K.Serov Receives ISO 14001:2004
OREANDA-NEWS. August 05, 2010. Metallurgical plant n/a A.K.Serov (UMMC ferrous metallurgy division, base enterprise of the managing company UMMC-Steel Corp.) has been successfully audited for compliance of its environmental management system with international standard ISO 14001:2004. Audit has been conducted by the German Certification Company TUV SUD Russland, reported the press-centre of UMMC.
As advised by the auditors, the international environmental certificate has been renewed till 2011. It’s worth mentioning that TUV SUD certificate is recognized almost in 100 countries.
“ISO certificates raise the company rating and enhance its position at the market as well as make it more competitive”, says Sergey Koptsov, lead auditor of TUV SUD Russland. “When international companies choose partners, they strive for minimization of all risks. They prefer to cooperate with such companies as Metallurgical plant n/a A.K.Serov, which tends to minimize all risks including environmental risks”.
The auditors have noted achievement of the plant in reduction of atmospheric emissions. Thus, from 2007 to 2009 the plant withdrew three open-hearth furnaces from the process and replaced them with advanced electric arc furnace. Dust collecting systems of machines and emeries were reconstructed in rolling mill, foundry and repair shop.
This year the Metallurgical plant n/a A.K. Serov has been replacing aeration devices of machining equipment. It should be noted that about 100 million rubles have been invested into environmental projects for the last three years and about 20 million rubles in 2010.
As it was mentioned earlier, the Metallurgical plant n/a A.K. Serov obtained certificate of compliance of ecological management system with international standard ISO 14001 in 2008. This certificate remains valid for three years subject to annual compliance audit.
