OREANDA-NEWS. August 05, 2010. Freight volume in the first 7 months of 2010 totalled 688.1 million tons, an increase of 11.3% over the same period last year, reported the press-centre of Russian Railways.

According to the latest figures, in the first 7 months Russian Railways shipped more than 166 million tons of coal (+10.2%), more than 7.4 million tons of coke (+37.7%), over 145.7 million tons of oil and petroleum products (+10%), 58.2 million tons of iron and manganese ore (+9.7%), 41.7 million tons of ferrous metals (+18.2%), about 11 million tons of ferrous metal scrap (+39.6%), about 26.5 million tons of chemicals and fertilizers (+21.3%), more than 18.3 million tons of cement (+12.9%), over 25.5 million tons of timber (5.5%), about 77.4 million tons of building materials (+7.2%), 14.7 million tons of ferrous and sulphur raw materials (+13.2%), 16.8 million tons of chemicals and soda (+23.9%), 19.9 million tons of industrial raw materials and moulding materials (+24.8%), 10.1 million tons of containerised cargo (+19.6%) and 10.5 million tons of grain and ground products (-18.3%).

In July 2010, the Company shipped 103.5 million tons, up 6.5% compared to July 2009.

Last month, shipping volumes of crude oil and petroleum products increased by 10.4% compared to July 2009, ferrous metals by +6.5%, ferrous metal scrap by 15%, chemical and mineral fertilizers by 13.5 %, cement by 9.5%, timber by 1.2%, building materials by 16%, industrial raw materials and moulded materials by 0.4%, chemicals and soda by 12,4% and cereals and ground products 11.5%.

The shipment volume of coal in July on the other hand fell by 0.7%, while coke was down by 2.7%.

Russian Railways recorded 169 billion tariff ton-kilometers of freight in July 2010 (+1.1%) and over 1,147 billion tariff ton-kilometers from January to July 2010, 11.1% more than in the same period in 2009.
