Yuzhny Port’s Throughput Down 15% in July, 2010
OREANDA-NEWS. August 04, 2010. Freight traffic volume handled by Yuzhny Commercial Sea Port (Odessa region, Ukraine) in July shrank by 15% compared with the same period of 2009, to 1,361,000 tons, the stevedoring company’s statistics said.
As compared with June figures, July cargo turnover leaped by almost 69%. The cargo nomenclature included coal, iron ore concentrate and urea. During the reporting month, the port handled 47 ships and 11,128 gondolas.
State-run Commercial Sea Port Yuzhny, founded in 1978, is located on the northwest coast of the Black Sea, in the ice-free Small Adzhalyksk (Grygoryivsky) estuary, 30 km northeast of Odessa. The Port is connected to the sea by a 3km-long 14-m-deep canal. In 2009 CSP Yuzhny had a net income of UAH557.882m, increasing gross income by 69.75% (UAH2.552.37m) year-over-year. Last year the Port’s throughput shrank by 17.79% (17.838m tons) from 2008’s numbers.
