OREANDA-NEWS. August 4, 2010. Thanks to the prompt work of the Ingosstrakh group, in the first half of 2010, 575 insurance fraud attempts were not successful. Illegal indemnity payments for a total of 382 mln rubles were prevented, which is 45.6% more than in the first half of year 2009. The work of the Ingosstrakh's Information Analysis and Protection Department provided savings of 434.8 mln rubles.
According to the statistics, up to 70% of all insurance fraud is connected with motor-vehicle insurance. In the last few years in different Russian regions strong criminal groups “specializing" specifically in such fraud crimes are formed. One of the main problems is a large amount of vehicle thefts (hijacking). Based on statistics reports, during the first half of year 2010 66,088 vehicles were hijacked. During this period Ingosstrakh registered 674 insurants’ applications for vehicle theft cover. As a result of well-coordinated work of the Company’s Information Analysis and Protection Department and law enforcement agencies 88 previously stolen vehicles were found in the said period.
From January 2010 until recently, 75 applications for criminal case on fraud initiation were received. The Information Analysis and Protection Department is responsible for communication functions, consulting the employees of investigating authorities to ensure more complete and appropriate qualification of the identified crimes.
“The effective system of insurance fraud countermeasures is an urgent need," comments Alexander Guliayev, Ingosstrakh Information Analysis and Protection Department director. "Such system is first of all in the interests of honest clients. Ingosstrakh adheres to well-defined position – we radically don’t agree to spend our clients' money to satisfy the illegal 'demands' of fraudsters and we constantly fight such crimes".
