Modern Warehouse Space in Port of Gdynia
OREANDA-NEWS. August 02, 2010. Investment activities carried out on the basis of the "Strategy for the Development of the Port of Gdynia up to 2015” attracts the contractors and investors to this newest Polish port. The Port of Gdynia Authority would like to inform the potential contractors about the modern warehouse space available in the port area.
The pace of the investment activities carried out by the Port of Gdynia Authority SA withstood the effects of global economic crisis that was noticeable on the Polish coast as well. The recent months’ statistics, however, show a slight upturn in the economy in the Polish ports - in the first half of this year cargo handling at the Port of Gdynia increased as compared to last year's turnover by 12.9%. It can therefore be assumed that in 2010 the total cargo handling in Gdynia will increase over the previous year by 10-15%. Creation of new business opportunities will certainly create favourable conditions for effective use of the signs of recovery of the economy. The state of the port’s infrastructure, in which for many years the Port of Gdynia Authority S.A. has been investing significant amounts of money, as far as its maintenance and development is concerned - and the vast majority from its own resources, is the primary and statutory care of the Port’s Authority. The EU funds also significantly support the investment activities. Obtaining funds for the development of infrastructure from the Cohesion Fund means that the PGA S.A. own resources saved in this way can be spent on projects that would not aspire for such funding. The most important among this type of investments are new storage facilities. Considering the fact that the significant part of revenues PGA S.A. constitute the revenues from the provided rental services (almost 48% - according to that data for the first half of 2010), the Port Authority decided to invest significant amounts of resources in the creation of modern high storage warehouse space.
Building a high-storage warehouse at the back of both Gdynia Container Terminals was launched last year as an investment in the storage area and it is being continued currently (at the 69 Kontenerowa street in Gdynia). According to the plan, the investment will be finished and the warehouse will be ready to use in November this year.
The warehouse is in the final stage of construction, the internal and external facilities are being installed. It will be use for storage of general cargo, highly processed goods in packages, with the exception of dangerous goods. The users will be able to carry out the logistic services related to storage, reception, completion and issuing of goods. The warehouse is dedicated to two users with the possibility to operate five handling positions for each user and the possibility to use the exit ramp which enables the loading equipment to enter the level of the outer parking lot. The warehouse will be handling approximately 40 trucks per day. The facility has very good road connection with the Kontenerowa Street.
The warehouse is divided into two separate compartments with the 24 cm thick fire wall. This modern facility will be located in the close vicinity of the planned investment of Rolls-Royce Marine Poland Sp. z o. o., i.e. the service and repair facility, dedicated to servicing marine propulsion systems. This facility will be built on the plot at the Kontenerowa Street of over 6.7 thousand m2 leased from the PGA S.A. Its commissioning is planned for next year.
The high-storage warehouse that is being equipped at the moment is not the only investment planned by the Port’s Authority that is to enrich the offer with further warehouse facilities for lease. Another high-storage warehouse is to be built in the period 2012-2013. It will be intended for storage of highly processed general cargo in packaging. This time the facility will be constructed in Western Port in Gdynia at 27 Wiњniewskiego Street. The future users will be able to carry out the logistic services related to storage, reception, completion and issuing of goods. The warehouse will be dedicated to several users with the possibility to operate 3 to 9 handling positions for each user and the possibility to use the exit ramp which enables the loading equipment to enter the level of the outer parking lot. Depending on the number of users of the facility, the warehouse will be able to handle even 200 trucks per day, approximately. The facility will have a road connection with the Kontenerowa Street.
The facility will have a steel or reinforced concrete structure. Preparatory works connected with the launching of the procedure for selection of the contractor for the design works of the investment are carried out at present. The completion of the first phase of the investment is scheduled for mid-December 2012. Approximately 50% of the usable area of the facility will be then ready to use. The entire investment task will be completed and the facility is to be ready to use nine months later.
