OREANDA-NEWS. July 30, 2010. A meeting of the Board of Directors of the International Monetary Fund had place, where it was unanimously agreed to approve a new IMF program of cooperation with Ukraine, aimed at overcoming the economic crisis and at structural reforms in Ukraine. Board also decided to commit for  this program implementing approximately 16 billion U.S. dollars tranche.

This decision took place after the termination at the end of 2009 of previouse program of cooperation of IMF with Ukraine because the Tymoshenko’s government did not fulfil its obligations.

Thus those responsibilities were signed then by President of Ukraine and the then the Prime Minister. However, based on electoral considerations, nothing was done, and thereby the credibility of the Ukrainian authorities with the world community was undermined.

In such difficult conditions the new Ukrainian government began negotiations with the International Monetary Fund and the leadership of countries that play a key role in fund decision-making.

The negotiations were complex and continued with great intensity for four months. Nevertheless, eventually a compromise was found and the decision to approve a new program of cooperation was taken.

Those obligations that the current government undertakes for implementation within the new programme, practically coincide with those that were not executed by the previous government.
On this occasion, the Government of Ukraine declares that Ukraine will perform consistently and conscientiously all the undertaken commitments.

The cooperation program with the IMF adopted in the Ukrainian crisis economy conditions, and in conditions of instability in world markets, is the only way to keep in our country the necessary level of social protection, to ensure the level ща salaries, pensions and other social benefits achieved by the current government and expand the Ukrainian families circle to receive financial assistance for housing and communal services.

The Government believes that citizens of Ukraine will understand: the obligations that had to take the authority, and measures for their implementation are necessary and inevitable.

Country is exsanguinated by populist policies of the previous government, needs stability and reforms that will lead Ukraine to a new level of life. That means, the European level of income, health care, education, utilities, security etc.

Activities undertaken today are not easy.

To be effective they need exposure and political will from Government and public understanding and support from the society.

However, we firmly assure the people of Ukraine, in all actions the new Government has single responsible goal - to ensure the interests of our country, to raise the welfare at a higher level.
