OREANDA-NEWS. July 26, 2010. Danube Logistics, the general investor and operator of the Giurgiulesti International Free Port resumed the construction of the Container and General Cargo Terminal. Construction was suspended on June 23 because of increase of water level of the Prut and the Danube rivers. The first step of Danube Logistics will be the restoration of construction site, which was damaged by the floods so that works with heavy equipment can resume.

Danube Logistics aims to complete the terminal by the end of 2010, so that it started up in the first quarter of 2011. Earlier, the General Manager of Easeur Holding - Thomas Moser announced because of suspension of construction works on Cargo Terminal the company-investor sustained losses to about EUR2 million.

Some part of the funds is to be spent on strengthening of the bank in order to avoid the similar situations in the future. Danube Logistics – is the leading operator of Giurgiulesti port. In December 2004 Danube Logistics signed with the Government of Moldova an investment agreement for the construction of port. Danube Logistics’ shareholders are the Dutch EASEUR Holding BV and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Until now, Danube Logistics invested EUR65 million in construction of three port terminals – oil product, grain and dry cargo. EUR10 million more are required to complete the Dry Cargo Terminal.
