OREANDA-NEWS. July 22, 2010. On 20 July 2010, the first experimental electricity sale auction was held successfully. Sales volume for 576.1 MW put on reached UAH 172.7mn. In the course of the auction, the average starting price  rose by 24.2%, from UAH 241.45 to UAH 299.8 per MW. All the GenCos participated in the auction, including CEEN, DNEN, DOEN, and ZAEN.

Millennium Capital sees this news as positive for the Ukrainian utilities sector as whole. Such a mechanism permits to cut down the losses of the GenCos incurred prior to raising the electricity tariffs and is conducive to healthier competition in the sector.
