OREANDA-NEWS. July 21, 2010. Chelyabinsk initiated an experimental program aimed at introduction of the GLONASS navigation system. Navigation equipment installed on 60 urban buses, and dispatcher’s computer system will acquire traffic and speed data. Special table will display the timing of arrival, to help the passengers.

GLONASS technologies are operating in test mode.  Transport navigation units sent signals to space, and the satellites return them back to the ground.

Advanced technologies are also to come soon to enhance service for the passengers. SMS and Internet services will provide time table data.

The space system is now mostly used for monitoring, but it is to reduce expenses and optimize the work as well in the future.
