OREANDA-NEWS. July 16, 2010. Vnukovo International Airport in Moscow has opened the long awaited Terminal A. Passenger service at the terminal was launched by UTair Aviation, with service on its Anapa - Moscow route. The arrival area for domestic flights of the terminal was also open.
Vnukovo International Airport is Utair's largest hub from where the airline's aircraft operate more than 100 flights daily to more than 60 destinations in Russia and abroad. UTair commands more than 30% of the passenger traffic at the airport and the number of transfer passengers transported weekly this summer has surpassed 20,000.
Utair's extensive facilities at Vnukovo International Airport enable passengers the daily access to destinations that do not have direct connections due to low passenger traffic. The airline launched its hub infrastructure at Vnukovo International Airport more than five years ago. Since 2006 UTair's share of transfer passengers at Vnukovo has grown 11-13% annually. In 2009 this figure rose to 21.5%. Of the more than 1.2 million UTair passengers serviced at Vnukovo International Airport in 2009, more than 262,000 were transfer passengers. Construction of the new Terminal A, with total planned area of 250,000 m2, was launched in February 2006 as part of an extensive modernization and development program at Vnukovo. The total area of the first phases of the terminal is 174,000 m2 with a capacity of 7 million passengers per year. The new terminal will bring the total capacity at Vnukovo to 18-20 million passengers per year in 2015.
