OREANDA-NEWS. July 09, 2010. The investments of Lafarge (France) International Group in cement plant Lafarge Ciment Moldova (Rezina), belonging to it, amounted to EUR40 million. This was announce by the regional manager of cement area Lafarge in Central and Eastern European countries Nicolas Fournier at the meeting of Lafarge group executives with the Prime Minister of Moldova Vladimir Filat, also with participation of Ambassador of France to Moldova Pierre Andieu.

They have discussed the influence of the world financial crisis on Moldova, the decisions of its overcoming and implementation of reclamation projects. Nicolas Fournier thanked the Moldovan Prime for openness and support, provided to investors. He noted, that the crisis and disloyal competitiveness of the last years have affected the activity of Cement plant of Rezina, and currently only 40% of total potential of the enterprise is used. Nicolas Fournier emphasized that Lafarge group wants to work in Moldova and hopes to solve the existing problems.

He said that they are interested in development of reclamation projects, noting the great potential in Moldova. The Prime Vladimir Filat said that global financial crisis has affected the economy of Moldova, but the slump was overcome and the activity in construction is already perceptible. He noted that some projects in the field of road infrastructure were launched and several more will start in the near future.

Also, soon will be launched the project of social housing construction. The head of the government said that he knows about the illegal construction materials trade, including cement, stressing that the competent bodies are activating the struggle with such trade. The Premier welcomed the reclamation projects in Moldova and assured a complete support of the government. Lafarge group privatized the Cement plant of Rezina in 1999. The enterprise produces the cement and clinker.
